The original strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (boulardii) HANSEN CBS 5926, first isolated by Henri Boulard. Ispired during his travels to Indochina in 1920's during a Cholera outbreak, he observed how the locals drank a tea made from macerating tropical fruits to treat diarrhoea. Since discovery, this strain of Saccharomyces boulardii has been the subject of many pharmacological and clinical studies and is used today around the world as a probiotic in the treatment of diarrhoea.

Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic, non-systemic, eukaryotic microorganism that can grow under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions and at a high temperature of 37°C. Whilst unable to colonise, this transient yeast provides benefits to the host as it moves.

  • Can assist in inhibiting growth and eliminating pathogens
  • Ability to enzymatically neutralise bacterial toxins such as those produced by Clostridium difficile
  • Enahnce the barrier functon of intestinal epithelium
  • Ability to normalise electrolyte homeostasis
  • Leads to an increase in disaccharidase activity thus improving carbohydrate absorption
  • Immunomodulating effects by stimulating sIgA synthesis
  • Helps to relieve symptoms of traveller's and acute diarrhoea
  • Clinical studies showing reduction in  frequency, duration and severity of an antibiotic-associated diarrhoea

Adults children over 2 years: take 1 capsule, once or twice daily, or as recommended by your healthcare practitioner. Capsule can be opened and added to foods or drinks.

Travellers’ diarrhoea start 5 days before departure and continue for the duration of travel.
