Summary:

Slippery Elm provides demulcent, emollient, bulk laxative and nutritive actions. This product provides ideal relief of the symptoms, pain and discomfort of gastritis and assists in maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal tract.

Bulk Laxative Effect & Weight Loss

Mucilages have been traditionally used as bulk laxatives, and may also be used as an adjunct in weight loss by creating a feeling of fullness. In addition to increasing stool weight (by providing unfermented or incompletely fermented fibre and the moisture it holds) psyllium seed promoted laxation in humans by providing gelatinous material that acts as a lubricating emollient.

It is highly likely that Slippery Elm also demonstrates this faecal lubricating property. Also the insoluble fibre in Slippery Elm will provide a bulking effect.

Customer questions / expert answers

Q. GI specialist recommended I get slippery elm. I'm FODMAPS (lactose intolerant). Can you recommend a product you stock?
A.

My favourite slippery elm formula is Bioceuticals Intestamine which repairs and nourishes the mucous membranes of the digestive tract.  We also have Slippery Elm in a capsule, but I would recommend the intestamine in powder form.
