Premular® (Ze 440) is a natural medicine clinically proven for the symptomatic relief of premenstrual syndrome (PMS); including symptoms of irritability, anger, headache, bloating and breast tenderness. Vitex agnus castus (Chaste tree) has a long history of use for hormonal conditions and menstrual complaints. Premular provides a clinically trialled and highly effective tablet extract of Vitex agnus castus, an evidence-based chaste tree product for the management of PMS.
Premular is the only Vitex agnus-castus product to have demonstrated significant efficacy in clinical trials, including a double-blind placebo controlled trial published in the British Medical Journal. The trial showed a significant improvement in all PMS symptom scores for women taking Premular over a 3 month period. More than 50% of women treated with Premular during the study period
experienced ?50% improvement in their PMS symptoms.
Premular has demonstrated sustained relief, even after treatment has ceased. A multicentre randomised control trial showed that participants’ symptom scores
remained 21.7% (p<0.001) below baseline, 3 cycles post-treatment.
In vitro research has demonstrated Premular’s dopaminergic action8 and several clinical trials have shown its effect for the relief of PMS. A newly published study has also shown that the dose used in Premular is the most effective for symptom relief, with no improvement when a larger dose was administered.
Due to the evidence supporting Premular’s use and efficacy, it is the only Vitex product to be assigned a ‘ well established use’ status by the EMEA.
