Inkephalin contains phenylalanine, a precursor to tyrosine, dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine.
D-Phenylalanine inhibits enkephalinase, an enzyme involved in the breakdown of enkephalin and endorphin. Inhibition of this enzyme therefore increases brain levels of enkephalin and endorphin. The enkephalinergic system is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter system which has been termed the body's endogenous opioid system.
Patients with phenylketonuria need to be cautious of supplements containing phenylalanine.

Customer questions / expert answers
Can you please recommend a potential alternative?
A good alternative would be Orthoplex Inkephalin. It has similiar nutrients to SAD powder. Taking tryptophan and phenylalanine together significantly increases serotonin levels in the brain (the happy hormone!).
